Celebrating Our Past | Sustaining Our Future
Unprecedented Opportunity.. Be There
The 2018 Bristol Bay Expo launches it's annual conference with a presentation by Keynote Speaker, Dr. Katherine Johnson Ringsmuth about the history of the Bristol Bay region and the impact of the commercial wild fisheries.
Dr. Johnson will follow up her keynote, as host to a dedicated space (MugUp) at the vendor tradeshow. The area will be open throughout the two days of the tradeshow (June 8th and 9th). Bring your stories, poems, photo's, newspaper articles, etc. as MugUp also serves as a collaboration by regional elders and experts on formally memorializing our past.
MugUp is a colloquial word for coffee break and is an expression used only in canneries. MugUp fueled cannery workers with caffeine and pastries, provided a respite from the monotony of the slime line and momentarily brought people together from around the world.
Who is this event designed for?
- Policy Makers
- Fishermen and Crew
- Processors and Affiliated Vendors
- Commercial Buyers (to better tell the story of the source)
- Regional Residents (Elders to share their knowledge, Youth To Pass Along Culture and History)
