Naknek, Alaska April 23, 2018 Bristol Bay FISH EXPO starts the 2018 Season with crew, captains, seafood processors, their supply chain partners and policy makers all gathered at one event days before the 2018 commercial fishing season begins. “Our purpose is for the community to welcome back an industry that touches nearly everyone and to reconnect for stronger and better relationships in what quickly turns to a very fast paced harvest season relying heavily on these relationships”, says Sharon Thompson, co-founder and event organizer.
This year’s theme of Celebrating Our Past | Sustaining Our Future runs deep throughout June 8th-9th at events that include a vendor tradeshow, live auction/fashion show, speed hiring (for crew and captains) and a gubernatorial candidates debate. Katie Copps-Wilson, co-founder speaks with strong conviction, “We are driven to create an event that ties our past with our future for the sake of our region and children. This tradition is very much a part of why our beneficiary of the Bristol Bay FISH EXPO is Little Angels Childcare Academy.”
Naknek is home to 10 major seafood processors and a fleet of nearly 1000 at the northeastern end of Bristol Bay. It is connected by road to King Salmon, Alaska which offers a commercial airport for passengers flocking into and out of the region during the summer seafood season. Recognized as one of the largest wild fisheries in the world (last year 37 million sockeye salmon), Naknek is a key logistics hub for the fleet, processors and their affiliated vendors.
